Understanding your payslip and employment contract
Is your pay correct? What do all those amounts on your payslip mean? What does your contract say? We explain it calmly, in your own language.
On your payslip everything starts from your gross wage. 13.07% of it goes to social security (RSZ / ONSS). With a low wage you receive a work bonus, so you pay less social security. Then your employer withholds wage tax (bedrijfsvoorheffing / précompte professionnel), an advance on your income tax. What remains is your net wage.
Your payslip also shows meal vouchers, holiday pay, the end-of-year bonus and the joint committee (the sector that sets your minimum wage). Your contract states your hours, your pay and the duration of the contract.
Not sure everything is right, or received a contract you don’t understand? We check it with you before you sign.

Frequently asked questions
Why is my net pay so much lower than my gross pay?
13.07% of your gross wage goes to social security, then your employer withholds wage tax. With a low wage, the deduction is smaller thanks to the work bonus.
What is a joint committee?
It is the sector your job belongs to. It sets, among other things, the minimum wage, bonuses and working hours.
Do I have to sign a contract I don’t understand?
Better not to sign without an explanation. We read it with you and explain it in Romanian.
