Applying for social assistance at the CPAS / OCMW: explanation and help with your application

Do you need financial support? The public social welfare centre (OCMW in Flanders, CPAS in Brussels and Wallonia) can help with an integration income (leefloon) or other social assistance. We explain what exists and help you apply.

The CPAS / OCMW assesses every application for social assistance individually. You must be able to show your situation: your income, your housing situation and your family. For EU citizens, additional conditions sometimes apply, for example in the first months of your residence.

A well-prepared application makes the difference. We help you gather the right documents and, if you wish, come with you to the interview.

Which documents do you usually need?

  • Identity card or residence card
  • Proof of your address (rental agreement)
  • Proof of income, or of the lack of it
  • Bank statements for the last few months
  • Details of your family

This is a general list. Exactly which documents you need depends on your situation and your municipality. After our first contact, you will receive a list tailored to you.
